At Green Clean  Hamptons we believe that “green” is more than just a sales gimmick or a marketing campaign.  Whereas many companies purchase commercial “green” cleaning materials that are plant-based but still contain harmful artificial fragrances and petro-chemicals, we make our own using only the purest ingredients.

Green cleaning is not an additional offering used to supplement our business, it is all we do and we take it very seriously.

We also believe that being green means doing everything within our power to dramatically lessen our carbon footprint.  By using natural ingredients purchased in bulk we reduce packaging waste and we eliminate the need to drive to the store every time we need to replenish our supplies.   We reuse all of our spray bottles and cleaning supply containers and once a week we clean our abundant supply of micro-fiber cleaning cloths using only cold water and biodegradable laundry soap.  organic cleaning products

For some cleaning tasks there are commercially available cleaning products that work very well and contain natural ingredients that my be hard to come by or prohibitively expensive.   If necessary, we will use off-the-shelf products as long as the meet the following standards:

  • Biodegradable
  • Formulated without dye
  • Nonflammable
  • Contain no ammonia, acids, alkalis, solvents, phosphates, chlorine, nitrates, petro-chemicals, or volatile organic compounds
  • We will use no product that does not clearly list all ingredients on the label.

Below is a list of some of the ingredients used in our tried and true green clean recipes.

BAKING SODA (sodium bicarbonate): An all-purpose, non-toxic cleaner. Cleans, deodorizes, removes stains and softens fabrics.

WASHING SODA  (sodium carbonate):  Cuts grease, cleans petroleum oil, removes wax or lipstick, and neutralizes odors.

CASTILE and VEGETABLE OIL BASED SOAPS: Cleans everything.

CORNSTARCH: Starches clothes, absorbs oil and grease.

HERBS and ESSENTIAL OILS: For disinfecting and fragrance. A good example of this is our homemade Organic Air-Freshener and Disinfectant using our special  brew of purified water, peppermint castile soap and eucalyptus oil  . The freshener is not sprayed, we apply our organic mixture to a dampened micro-fiber cloth and gently wipe hard surfaces, door handles, and countertops .  An added benefit is that eucalyptus oil can help fight illness!

LEMON JUICE: Cuts through grease and removes perspiration and other stains from clothing. A bleach alternative.

BLACK TEA:  The tannins in tea make it an excellent hardwood floor  cleaner.

SALT (sodium chloride): An abrasive.

VINEGAR (acetic acid): Cuts grease, removes stains and is an excellent water softener.

Green Clean Hamptons uses lint-free micro-fiber clothes for all of our cleaning.  Micro fiber cloths disperse oil, grease, dirt, grime, film, dust, and collect it deep in the cloth.  Reused over and over,   micro fiber cloths usually last for years of use making them an eco-friendly alternative to paper-towels or bleached cotton clothes.   Because they trap dirt, micro fiber cloths can be used to dust without the use of chemical sprays or cleaning solvents.

NOTE:  We do not use any product that does not list all ingredients.
